I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to photograph this unit renovation recently. I always enjoy seeing the final results of a homeowners vision when the renovate.

When I initially spoke to the owner of this unit I was a little skeptical about the look and appearance that was described to me. My first thought was that a black kitchen and earthy tones would make the small living space of a unit feel even smaller. The original kitchen and bathroom were quite dated but had the usual white colour scheme which is popular these days.

The owner decided to take on a totally different colour palette and it actually works very well. The earthy Tuscan colours used and the black cabinetry in the kitchen and bathroom all help to create a warm and stylish ambiance. You can almost forget you are in an older unit complex with the clever use of colours and styling in this unit.

The renovated bathroom is a world away from the original design and looks very stylish. Slate floor and wall tiles have been used and offer a subtle contrast to the gloss black vanity and the earthy wall paint completes the styling story of this room. See the before and after photos below to see how going against the colour trends can really work with a little imagination and clever styling and staging.
