I was the first photographer to make it across battle lines to document the rebel effort and their commander Alfredo Reinado for TIME.</p>

Fruit bats carry the virus and are thought to pass it on to horses through their droppings. Several people have died from the virus after having been in contact with infected horses. <p>I was commissioned to photograph an extremely sensitive investigative story on the suicide of two teenagers. Part of the shoot for the story involved taking the greiving mothers to the cemetary where their daughters are buried side by side. In a difficult situation I managed to make the photo that held up the story pictorially for the print and online versions of the story.</p> <p>Excellent collaboration with the journalists involved secured successful photo opportunities.  John Wilson News Photography</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>NOTE:</strong> This story has been nominated for the prestigous Australian Walkley Award for Feature stories. <p>I was sent out to central Queensland to photograph an elusive <strong>Prince Harry</strong> who was staying at a cattle station near Roma. We had no idea of where the prince was staying so the search for the Prince became the intial story for News Ltd who had sent me and another journalist to work on the story. I was the first photographer to catch a glimpse of the Prince mustering cattle at a remote cattle yard after spending more than a week on dusty country tracks. The photos were used around the world. I made the photo above at a rodeo the Prince visited in the town of Injune while covering the story. <strong>John Wilson News Photography</strong></p>

<p>Fraser Island off the coast of Queensland has become the cauldron of environmental and political issues concerning the Dingo, an Australian native dog. I documented a story for TIME which involved travelling throughout the island with researchers and locals. More photos in the Fraser Island Dingo Gallery.</p>

<p>It was a challenging story to document, working in remote locations sometimes from canoes in pitching seas and often at night and stretching the limits of photographic equipment as well as myself.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Testimonial from TIME Magazine writer Rory Callinan</strong>: <em>In February 2006, he accompanied me to the Solomon Islands to investigate the widespread exploitation of youth by multi-national logging and fishing concerns. If reporting this story was difficult then gaining photographic evidence seemed almost impossible but to Johns credit, he shot extraordinary images one of which became a cover for Time. He faced almost impossible shooting conditions, working at night, on moving boats and confronting hostile subjects in the crewmembers who were involved.</em></p> <p><em><br /></em></p> <p><strong><em>More Solomon Islands photos in the Solomon Islands gallery.</em></strong></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>

I documented the story for TIME over several weeks leading up to to the coup and the aftermath.</div>

A large number of families live in squatters villages which I documented for the <strong>TIME magazine </strong>story. My efforts in living with the squatters for a couple of weeks was rewarded with three double trucks in the magazine (Double trucks are two page spreads and highly prized by photographers).</p>

<p>In East Timor political tensions were ramped up as an attempt to capture rebel Commander Alfredo Reinado was bungled by the international security forces and left one rebel dead. I travelled throughout the country and into the mountainous interior to document the subsequent unrest and funeral proceedings for the fallen rebel.</p>

<h1><strong>No Juice - Australias largest tomato growers closes.</strong></h1> <div><strong><br /></strong></div> <div><strong>I was commissioned to photograph a story for the Australian newspaper about the demise of Australias largest tomato grower. pic John Wilson</strong></div> <div><strong><br /></strong></div> <div><strong>Full story from The Australian Newspaper: </strong></div> <div><strong><br /></strong></div> <div><strong> <p>SUE NEALES, RURAL REPORTER From: The Australian</p> <p style="\">AUSTRALIAS biggest tomato grower has gone broke and is blaming price manipulation by the two major supermarkets for playing a key role in his demise.</p> <p style="\">The appointment of administrators to Queensland-based SP Exports, which grows 30 per cent of all fresh tomatoes eaten in Australia, has sent shivers through the fruit and vegetable business.</p> <p style="\">Industry representatives are asking whether any local horticultural growers can survive the onslaught of savage price discounting if leading producers such as the Philip family cannot.</p> <p style="\">SP Exports managing director Andrew Philip has told fellow growers much of his family businesss misfortune is due to continued low prices for tomatoes after a seasonal glut and high fixed price guarantees by Woolworths that killed demand for his truss tomatoes last year.</p> <p style="\">The company, based at Childers in southern Queensland, suffered $5 million of flood crop damage in late 2010, lost $1m of cherry tomatoes to chemical spray drift last March and another $7m of tomato seedlings at Bowen last July when a nursery irrigation system was laced with deadly herbicide.</p> <p style="\">The slashing of vegetable prices by Coles last month was the <em>last straw</em> for the previously successful tomato growing and marketing business. The company has gone into voluntary administration, with debts of at least $31m, and owing more than $500,000 in wages and other entitlements.</p> <p style="\">About 60 staff employed by SP Exports were laid off at Childers last Friday. Hundreds more contract tomato pickers are out of a job, with many, such as visiting Estonian Aivar Nigumann, owed wages by contractors and afraid they may not be paid.</p> <p style="\">Administrators Korda Mentha warned yesterday that the corporate assets available to pay unsecured creditors and workers were <em>minimal</em>, with the company leasing rather than owning land from Queensland to Victoria from other farmers to grow and supply its cherry, truss and field tomatoes all year round to the two big supermarket chains.</p> <p style="\">John Brent, chairman of peak grower group Ausveg, warned yesterday that if such a smart and innovative grower as SP Exports and Mr Philip could not survive, it would not be long before other vegetable farmers went bust.</p> <p style="\"><em>The supermarkets</em> <em>cant keep on screwing down the major growers and expect to have a local fresh fruit and vegetable industry remain</em>,Mr Brent said last night.</p> <br /></strong></div> <div><strong><br /></strong></div> <p><strong><br /></strong></p>
