Pole Fisherman - Sri Lanka
At Weligama fishermen use an ingenious method to fish. Each fisherman has a long pole with a crossbar that is stuck in the seabed close to the shore. The fishermen wade or swim out to these poles when the tides arev favouable. They then perch on the crossbar for hours as the tide sweeeps in. The origin of this unusual fishing technique is unknown, but each stilt position is highly prized and handed down from father to son. Outtake from NEWS LIMITED assignment
